BUSY MINION NEWS - Week of October 10

This Week  It was another crazy week!  It was a short week (No School tomorrow), plus Necap Testing, and we were out straight getting projects ready for Open House.  We enjoyed having everyone who was able, visit for Open House.  It was nice to share everything we have been working on. We finished our NH Regions books and our Abenaki Coloring books.   In between everything else, we did spend some time working on Math problem solving and researching the Ice Age.  Today we will take some time to learn about the Bill of Rights through an online opportunity through Colonial Williamsburg Foundation that all the 4th graders will share.  We will also need to start cooking up some new projects to work on.

Next Week  We will continue NECAP testing on Tuesday.  We have four sessions left to take.  We will do a Literacy story next week, “My Brother Martin.”  We will focus on author’s purpose as well as common and proper nouns.  We will continue to move ahead with more difficult multiplication and start learning about the first settlements and towns of New Hampshire.

Busy Minion News - Week of October 4th

This Week  It was another fast week – 4th grade is flying by!  We read and enjoyed the story of “Because of Winn Dixie” in Literacy this week.  We worked on sequencing of events and fixing run-on sentences.  In Math, we learned the cool zero trick when multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1000.  In Math, we even created some very cool Math Fact Art with patterns and color.   We continued to work on memorizing our multiplication facts by doing X-ray Math everyday.  We are finishing up our NH Region books and some new ones are being published every day.  We have started to research Native Americans in NH and are starting to create a coloring book based on all the information we are learning.  We finished “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and are making an iMovie to document all our favorite moments from the book.  We also finally learned the shrinking spell (Reducio!) so we could finish our Reading Riches medallions.  We will start keeping track of reading minutes at home and students will collect a jewel for their necklace for every 100 minutes read at home.

Next Week  We will start NECAP testing on Tuesday.  We have six sessions to complete and we will do one per day.  We will not do a Literacy story next week, but will focus on writing and our projects.  Since students showed a great interest in the Ice Age information they read about in their Social Studies books, we will spend some time next week learning more about that time and what life was like.  We will continue to work ahead in Math, perhaps getting ready for double digit multiplication.
