Thanksgiving Message

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm sorry I missed our last day before Thanksgiving Break.  Mr. Beaudet lost his mother and my kids lost their Nana Beaudet yesterday.  Thank you to all the teachers who helped cover the class and give you activities to work on so I could be there for my family on such a tough day.

I had planned to have the class create a Thanksgiving iMovie with all the things we are thankful for.  And while we certainly couldn't do that this year, I hope all the kids will reflect on the wonderful things they have in their lives.  Be sure to enjoy family time, a yummy meal, and some well deserved time off from school!

I am surely thankful for such wonderful kids to work with every day.  Thank you to all the kids for your hard work everyday on the simple, boring, routine classroom jobs.  While it is so important to learn all the essential skills for 4th grade, it also lets us have time for great projects like the Revolutionary War Code book, as well as our Super Hero project.

I am also thankful for all the parents and the great job that they do with their kids.  Thank you to all of you that help with the regular homework assignments - as well as encourage your kids to read and become interested in fun hobbies and topics.  I also appreciate so much your efforts to support my crazy ideas and projects that I give your kids.  Thank you for all the big things and little things you do to help your kids every single day!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Mrs. Beaudet

We are saving all of our own personal favorite moment paintings to put into individual books at the end of the year.  We'll see how far we get....JK Rowling wrote some pretty massive books!  Last year's class got part way through #5 Order of the Phoenix.

Our Favorite Moments - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Every day after lunch, Mrs. Beaudet reads Harry Potter to us.  We created paintings of our favorite moments of the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - after Mrs. Beaudet finished reading it to us.  Then we created this iMovie showing our paintings and the recordings of what our favorite moments were.  Mrs. Beaudet had trouble uploading it...so we weren't able to share it until today!  Please enjoy!  The next iMovie will be created soon...as we are on the last chapter of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Going Away Suprise for Miss Kingston

We enjoyed having Miss Kingston in our class this fall.  She is studying to be a teacher at Plymouth State University.  She taught us a bunch of lessons and helped our class when she visited.  To wish her luck as she gets ready for student teaching in January, we created the ultimate iTeach phone for her, complete with all the apps she will need to run her next classroom!  The students brainstormed the apps and then designed them and together put them on a big iTeach phone poster.  We also created a small book to tell her all about what the apps will do.
Best of luck to you Miss Kingston!

Busy Minion News - Week of November 15

This Week  We read the story, “Mystic Horse.”  We worked on sequencing events as well as reviewed plurals and possessives.  In Math, we worked on mastering double digit multiplication and started division with remainders.  We never got very far this week with our Super Hero project, but we made a great going away project for Miss Kingston, our Methods student from Plymouth State.  Also, in the spirit of George Washington’s Patriot spy ring, we have also started working on a coded book of the reasons that led to the Revolutionary War.

Next Week  We will read the funny story, “When I Went to the Library,” next week and we will work on the skill of making inferences and action verbs. We will continue to work on mastering multiplication, and continue to learn how to do longer division. We will hopefully continue working on our Super Hero project by starting to formulate a plan for our super hero costumes, as well as starting to write our first chapter in our Super Hero Adventure.  We will also continue to work on our Revolutionary Secret Code books.

REMINDER: We have Phys Ed on Mondays –remember sneakers!  First term will end on Nov. 26 and Report Cards will go home on Dec 6.  Don’t forget to regularly check the updates on our class website: mrsbeaudet.blogspot.com

READING MINUTES:  Please keep track of reading minutes at home with “Reading Riches”  For every 100 minutes read at home, students will collect a jewel to add to their Reading Riches medallion here at school.  Please just sign off on the number of minutes read each night and we will keep track of them here at school.  I know families are busy and have a lot going on.  If there is a night when you just simply don’t have time to read, that’s ok – just sign off when your child gets a chance to read!

PLEASE WORK ON:  Everyone can always work on their Reading Minutes, practice multiplication facts, spelling words, and complete HW!  You can review our Reading stories before each test by asking your child to tell you about the characters and what details happened in the story.

I is for "I can say no!"
G is for "Get help!"
E is for "Exit when necessary!"
R is for "Respect!"

Busy Minion News - November 8

This Week  We enjoyed the story, “Wild Horses,” this week and learned about how wild mustangs are protected in the West.  In writing, we completed our Red Sox trivia books, our fantastic beast writing, and applied to the Anti-Villain League as super heroes.  We also enjoyed an online field trip to learn about the branches of our government and how they all check and balance each other.  In Math, we learned about prime and composite numbers, continued to practice multiplication, and we figured out the challenge of simple algebra. In Social Studies, we finished our Colonial Trade Sign project and started learning about the Revolutionary War.  We learned about what divided the colonists into Patriots and Loyalists, and what had the Patriots so upset at King George!

Next Week  We will read the story, “Mystic Horse,” next week and we will work on the skill of sequencing. We will continue to work on mastering multiplication, simple algebra, and begin looking at division. We will continue working on our Super Hero project by starting to formulate a plan for our super hero costumes, as well as starting to write our first chapter in our Super Hero Adventure.  We will also learn about how George Washington organized Patriot spies to win the Revolutionary War – and do some little spy techniques ourselves.

REMINDER: We have Phys Ed on Mondays –remember sneakers!  No School on Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11.  First term will end on Nov. 26 and Report Cards will go home on Dec 6.  Don’t forget to regularly check the updates on our class website: mrsbeaudet.blogspot.com

Top Secret Super Heroes

We are in the process of creating our own original super hero identities.
More on that later.......

Happy Halloween!

We celebrated Halloween the morning after the Red Sox won the World Series!  There were a bunch of interesting characters that visited our party!  We had a lot of fun.  A big shout-out to all the families that were able to send in some yummy goodies for us to enjoy at our party!

Red Sox - World Champions - 2013

Throughout Major League Baseball's postseason, our class ran a school trivia challenge every morning with announcements.  We read Red Sox questions on the announcements every day and the classes sent their answers down to our classroom.  We were so excited that the Red Sox kept winning at every level and eventually beat the St. Louis Cardinals to become the World Series Champions!
