Busy Minion News - Week of Jan. 15th
This Week We
took the January Benchmark Dibels test this week. Every single student improved in their
fluency – and that proves we have been working hard! I am constantly thankful for the kids who are
giving their best day in and day out!
Wonderful progress Minions!
Congratulations! While we were
dibeling, students chose a Carole Marsh mystery book to read and do a project
with, so those books made up our Literacy activities this week. We also worked on our Multicultural Week Ancestral
country research this week. We also
continued to make a ton of progress on our Super Hero chapter books. In Math, we continued working on equivalent
fractions. We have also added cups and
background music to our NH Cups song so we are getting very close to being able
to share it! Can’t wait! (The lyrics are constantly going through my
head…every hour of every day!!!!)
Next Week
In Literacy for the short three day week, students will finish their
Carole Marsh mystery project. We will finish
our work on equivalent fractions in Math and get ready to take the Unit 3 test. We will continue to write our Super Hero adventures
and begin our ancestral country book paintings and pages. And, of course…we will be practicing our NH
Cups song. “We were there, Now we’re
here, We’re gonna explore everywhere, We’re gonna clear out the land, We’re
gonna build our new homes, We call this place New Hampshire….”
REMINDER: No School on Monday, Jan. 20 for MLK
Jr. Day. Also No School on Friday, Jan.
24 due to the Teacher Workshop. Family
Heritage Museum Display Project due on Wed., Jan. 29, Multicultural Night –

Welcome to Hogwarts!
Professor Beaudet welcomed the newest students to Hogwarts today! It is going to be an exciting week!
Students visited Ollivander's Wand Shop and found their perfect wands. The young witches and wizards spent their long-saved galleons on purchasing their new wands. They then registered the wands with the Ministry of Magic. In their registration paperwork, students needed to provide details of their wands such as: wand wood, wands core, wand length, wand characteristic, as well as what the wand is particularly good for.
The new students then took part in the Sorting Ceremony. The Sorting Hat sorted them into the Hogwarts House that best suited their personality qualities.

Busy Minion News - December 13
This Week We
read and performed the play, “Ranita, the Frog Princess” in Literacy. We worked in two different groups to rehearse
and perform this cute fairy tale. We
also worked on writing our Super Hero books and we learned about the Civil
War. We worked with Mr. Hazelton on our
NH Cups song and reviewed all the skills for Unit 2 in Math: multiplication,
division, multiples, prime/composite numbers, algebra and word problems.
Next Week
We will celebrate the end of 2013 with a Harry Potter/Hogwarts themed
week. We will have fun doing academic
tasks related to our reading of Harry Potter, as well as work on many craft
type projects for Christmas time. We
will be sorted, finally get wands…..and work on a number of other highly
anticipated things. There is a lot to
look forward to next week! We have many
projects that we want to get finished...so we will be busy working like house
elves! We will end the week with our
Christmas Brunch on Friday morning.
Christmas Brunch - Friday, Dec. 20th
Friday,
December 20, 2013
For the week leading
up to Christmas vacation, we will have Harry Potter themed academic activities
and craft projects. At some point
during the week, we will be making classmate gifts to give one another at the
Christmas Brunch.
On
Friday, we will celebrate Christmas as a class with a morning brunch (instead
of the afternoon party)! We will spend
the rest of the day being busy - finishing up our gifts and getting them wrapped
to bring home. We might also enjoy a
quiet movie in the afternoon.
For
our brunch, we would very much appreciate the following breakfast type items:
Bagels with cream
cheese - Tommi
muffins - Jesse, Jeremy, Samee, Meghan
yogurt - Milly
fruit - Milly
strawberries - Tommi
grapes - Lily
grapes - Lily
orange
juice - Emma, Lily
milk - Jeremy, Samee
brown & serve sausages - Tyler, Gabe, Caleb

I
will provide the toaster, griddle, and paper goods. Thank you so much!
Mrs. Beaudet
Please do not send in any candy or dessert. Thank you so much for your help.

Checking out KHAN ACADEMY for Math Help!
I want to encourage all the students to visit www.khanacademy.org -OR- the free iTunes App Store Khan Academy app for GREAT math tutorial videos. Watching the videos can help students grasp a better understanding of Math concepts and procedures - especially in long multiplication and division! The website and app are easy to navigate and will be so helpful if you can have your child spend a little bit of time on watching some tutorial videos!
Here is a sample video from the 4th grade division menu, just follow the link:

Busy Minion News UPDATES
Week of November 22
This Week We read the story, “When I Went to the
Library,” in Literacy this week. We
started the epic task of learning long division….Karl the Knarl is helping us
with that (hehe). We also continued to
work on mastering multiplication. We
started writing our Super Hero books with outlining and drafting Chapter 1
about our regular life as a kid. Today
we will create our Super Hero costumes…they should turn out incredible and
amazing! We worked on Revolutionary War
code books – finishing our Tax issue page with a cipher disk and the No
Representation page with Tallmadge’s Code.
Mr. Hazelton not only helped us learn the very cool Beatles tune,
Octopus’s Garden, on the ukuleles - but
he also came in to give us extra, professional help with our NH Cups song. Hopefully, with a few more practices, we will
be able to record the song to share with everyone! We also finished Harry Potter and the Chamber
of Secrets and we are creating our next “Favorite Moments” iMovie.
Next
Week We will not have a
Literacy story next week, due to the 2 day week. We will spend the couple of days before
Thanksgiving finishing our Revolutionary Code books (with invisible ink and a
pig pen/Free Mason cipher) as well as other projects. We will work on our Super Hero stories, finish
the Chamber of Secrets Moments iMovie, and some fun seasonal activities. One piece of real school business that we
need to take care of is in Math. We will
do a Math test before Thanksgiving so we can get an idea of what we still need
to work on with multiplication and division.
Week of December 6
This Week We read the story, “Dear Mrs. LaRue,” in
Literacy this week. It was a fun story
about a naughty doggie who had to go to obedience school – and was not very
happy about it. With our Work Plan, we
had fun writing to some pictures of Mrs. Beaudet’s crazy dog Pudgie! We are continuing to work on multiplication
and division. We completed our
Revolutionary War code books –and they are pretty cool! We have started our secret NH Crop project –
we collected a lot of very yummy recipes!
We also finished the week enjoying some craft time making some things
for special people in our lives. It is a
wonderful time of year!
Next
Week We will read and
perform the play, “Ranita the Frog Princess” in Literacy. We will try to make some good progress on our
Super Hero project. We will review our
multiplication and division skills and get ready to take the Unit 2 test before
vacation. We also hope to meet up with Mr. Hazelton again to perfect our NH Cups
song. We really hope to create a music
video with our song so we can share it!
We will also work on our NH Crop project and some other holiday fun
projects that we will integrate into some writing and reading.
SPECIAL
THANK YOU: to all the parents and families that came to meet with me for Report
Card conferences! It was really
wonderful to talk with you all and celebrate your children’s progress so far in
4th grade. They are great
kids – thank you for sharing them with me!
We are having a terrific year!
